 This is THE GATE to the Hearth of Janissaries, the elite guards of the Ottoman Sultans.

Recruited from among the non-muslim boys in the empire by a process called devshirme, the janissaries were the fearsome warriors of their time. This blog will focus on the janissaries and the Ottoman military history but also will cover related topics when necessary. Its main concern is the pre-modern times.
